Question about dilution

After adding 20ml of Sterile Water for Injection to a 4gm vial of powdered drug, the concentration is 325mg/2ml. What is the powder volume of the drug? {remember powder volume is equal to final volume-diluent added)

first set up the problem....
325mg/2ml = 4g/xml
convert grams to milligrams
325mg/2ml= 4000mg/xml
Cross Multiply
325(X)= 2(4000)
325x=8000
325x/325=8000/325
x=24.61

solve for powder volume
24.61ml-20ml(inital volume)=4.61 ml

Convert : 4 gm of powder drug to mg, since you have concentration, you'll get final volume.

2ml/325mg x 4000mg = 24.6ml

24.6ml - 20ml = 4.6ml (powder volume)
