Are unanswered questions counted
against you on the PTCB?

On the PTCB exam, unanswered questions are counted as wrong and negatively effect your score. That being the case, the best plan of attack is to get to all of the ones you know first, then return to the more challenging ones.

This strategy is for time management by not getting hung up on the harder questions that kill lots of time. Instead, save them 'til the end. The computer based testing system allows you to do this.

Actually, there are several strategies you can use to let the statistics work in your favor and ease your test anxiety. In fact, there's whole a page on the site about strategy.

One Strategy

Example of the above strategy: Let's say two people taking the exam are slow test takers and forgot to skip the harder questions and have only 90 seconds left, and 12 more questions to mark. One decides to mark them randomly using all four letters. The other picks a letter, let's say "B", and marks them all with that. Statistically the second person will get more correct.

Be confident
by: Adrian

The first phase to taking the test is not to be worried or nervous about failing. If you go into the exam feeling that way, well, you already failed cause you lost focus.

Don't stress out over the PTCB
by: Teresa

I took my test after putting it off for...years. I studied like mad for 3 weeks prior to the exam and passed with an overall score of 800. My biggest mistake was stressing out way too much. Know your math and get a study guide. It wasn't as difficult as I thought it would be! Now I want to go back to school at the age of 46! Maybe medical billing and coding. I think the combo of skills could work well together. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

Filler questions on the PTCB
by: Keith

Actually...yes, there are. According to the PTCB website, there are 10 experimental questions on each exam that do not count either way. Those questions are placed in there to try new material and survey knowledge on new topics. Some of the topics may not even relate to pharmacy. It's good to know about those because soo many people get thrown off by them. People will say "There was like 8 or 10 questions on there that I hadn't even studied about or even heard of." In fact, if you spend some time on this forum or look at facebook posts, you'll see that occasionally.
